Balloon Glow. Well...Sort Of.

This past weekend, being the weekend before Derby, there were pre-Derby activities. Friday night, we attempted to go to the balloon glow. The glow is an event where all of the balloons that are competing in the next day's race are "puffed" up and lit up at the fairgrounds. In theory, you are supposed to be able to walk around in the field and look at the balloons. In practice, at least this time, it was too windy so only a few balloons could be up at one time. Must be a continuation of the Fantoni hot air balloon jinx. Perhaps it was all for the best as the sound of the balloons firing up was definitely not Jonathan's favorite thing.

Jonathan stayed up the latest he has ever stayed up for this event--9:30! Here he is at the Glow. This picture was taken just after he said "Mommy, no pictures!"

This is what it should have looked like. This year's results were definitely not picture worthy. Luckily for all the balloon fans out there, we skipped the Saturday balloon race so the event actually went forward. Seriously, what is the problem with us and hot air balloons??

You do have bad balloon luck! Maybe next year...

Jonathan looks like a movie star hiding from the paparazzi!

Morgantown has a balloon festival every fall, and it seems to me that any time I went to Night Glow, it was a bust, too. Oh well...maybe next year. Jonathan looks like he still had fun, balloons or no balloons.

I wish we had a balloon festival around here. It looks so cool! Are you guys going to the Derby?

I'd be lucky if Cameron fell asleep at 9:30pm. He's been falling asleep around 10pm lately.

I have tried to attend night glow in morgantown and it got rain out everytime. Then I moved to the Mileground and planned a Night Glow party at my house...9/11 happened and they moved Night Glow from the airport...so I have never had good luck with them either!

Awww darn. I remember the issue you had last year. I can't believe it is almost Derby time again, that is something I have always wanted to attend.

Jonathan looks pretty happy having stayed up past his bedtime.
